In 1968, their passion for pet health through nutrition began with one man, Jean Cathary(born in May 1927) in small French Town of Puy-en-Velay.
He started his veterinary career working with horses and bulls. Over the years, he came to believe that food could impact the health of animals. In 1968, he created the "yellow soup" for dogs. The ROYAL CANIN brand got registered then.
In 1972, The Royal Canin Company got acquired by the Guyomarc'h group bringing us its expertise in nutritional precision and diet formulation.
By 1974, Royal Canin products were getting sold in eight countries across Europe- France, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and the Netherlands.
In 1980, The Royal Canin launched AGR Food, the first ever complete food designed for large breed puppies. AGR was praised by breeders around the world and for over 15 years, it was seen as the "reference food".Â
In 1985, The Royal Canin brand got launched in USA with four importers.
In 1994, The Royal Canin brand launched RCFI range, a triple revolution in cat food.
In 1997, The Royal Canin Brand launched RCCI SIZE. After years of research and development, it was the world's first nutritional programme based on the size and age of the dogs.
In 1999, The Royal Canin brand launched the Breed Specific Nutrition with Persian Cat Food.
In 2009, With the opening of the first factory in Asia, they now have nine plants to manufacture products. Royal Canin now manufacture and supply across every continent, except Antarctica.
